Size Up Or Down?
FitFlops have been designed to fit a standard instep foot and are graded in the traditional way. The webbing is designed to hold the foot quite high up across the instep. Thus, the FitFlop fit is a function of arch height and instep height. Our experience so far has shown that women who have a lower instep or flatter foot need to size down. The length of the sole is quite generous so going half a size down should not cause a length issue. If you have a very high or heavier instep, however, we recommend sizing up. If neither applies, customer feedback has stated "when in doubt, size down."

The men's styles fit differently. They run much smaller as compared to standard American sizing. When buying the men's Fit Flop, please size up when fitting a half size.
Do FitFlops work for wide feet?
Yes, FitFlops are suitable for a wide foot. Because the FitFlop foot bed is slightly wider than average, it fits pretty much every foot in width. If you have an extremely high instep, you may have to go up a size initially, or spend some time wearing in the midsole, which custom molds and compresses to fit your instep height after a couple of days of intensive use. If you have a narrow foot or a low instep we recommend you go down a size if between sizes.
Some other Fit Facts:
1. Your FitFlops' footbed will custom-mold to your feet after a week or so of wear. They will also challenge people with different levels of fitness differently. If you're already in Olympian-level shape, you'll probably describe your FitFlops more as super-comfortable than "killer workout".
2. FitFlops slow the eversion rate of the average person's step, so that the time the muscle spends in an active state is increased during every step. The muscle fibers activated are the "slow twitch" type, which are the fibers that create longer, leaner-looking limbs.
3. The FitFlop MicrowobbleboardTM midsole is constructed out of non-absorbent EVA material, and built to last through over a million "flexes". They should be good for four to six months of intensive wear and tear, and should never have to be discarded because of odor buildup.
4. The FitFlop works your gluteus muscles more. Studies at The Center for Human Performance at LSBU show that walking in the FitFlop engages the gluteus maximus muscles more than walking in normal sneakers or standard issue flip flops.
